Chapter 19: Knuckles vs. The Dark Queen

The Dark Queen’s shadow slithered back into its normal state. A look of rage formed on her face. While Knuckles cracked his knuckles to show he was ready to fight, the Dark Queen pulled out a knife.

“Fine then! I’ll kill you so I can finish my form!” the Dark Queen said in the Dark King’s voice.

She charged at Knuckles, who quickly dodged her attack. Knuckles grabbed her hard by the arm and chucked her into Peach’s castle, which was flaming from the dark grey fire inside. If he was going to fight the Dark King inside Katelyn’s body, then the last thing he wanted was his friends to get hurt. Knuckles wanted this battle away from his friends.

The Dark Queen crashed onto Peach’s throne, but she got back on her feet when she saw that Knuckles was coming. She tried to throw her knife and Knuckles, but the echidna dodged it. He quickly picked up a chair that had some flames on it and chucked it at the Dark Queen. The Dark Queen simply punched it to break it, but Knuckles charged after he threw the chair. Catching the Queen off guard, he punched her hard in the face.

Dark Queen hissed in pain like an upset cat. She pulled more knives from her belt, holding two in each hand, and charged at Knuckles. She twirled her knives around a bit, like they were swords, trying to at least cut Knuckles as she charged. Knuckles jumped out of the way, but the Dark Queen managed to slash him on his leg.

Knuckles took a quick look at his injury. Surprisingly, it didn’t hurt at all, probably because he was now a Nightmare.

“Wow… doesn’t hurt…” he muttered to himself. Maybe Tails was right. Maybe he was the only one strong enough to last in this battle.

But the Dark Queen wasn’t going to give up. She looked furious when she found out that her knife didn’t do anything to Knuckles, so she picked up the next best thing: she grabbed a décor sword from one of the walls and pointed it at Knuckles. Thinking fast, Knuckles grabbed a sword of his own from another wall and pointed it back at her.

The two got into a duel. Knuckles wasn’t that skilled with swords, but good thing he and Katelyn would practice fencing with swords on days when they guarded the Master Emerald together, because it certainly prepared him to match the Dark Queen’s fast pace in this duel.

At one point, Knuckles was able to slash her on the leg, causing the Dark Queen to fall back. He swung the sword again to knock hers out of her hand. He then tried to stab the Dark Queen’s shadow with his sword, but all that came out was the Dark King’s evil laughs.

“Ha! You can’t separate me from my own queen!” he laughed.

“Maybe I can’t, but this can!” Knuckles shouted.

He pulled out a familiar bracelet and put it on. It was the bracelet for Katelyn’s sword, so with the wave of his hand, he held onto Katelyn’s sword, and as he fought the burning pain on his hand, he stabbed the shadow hard with it.

This time, a horrible shrieking voice came out. Nasty ooze started to form on the floor where the shadow was, and a light grey cloud started to surround the Dark Queen. The cloud suddenly started to go into the ooze, and when it was gone, the Dark Queen was replaced by Katelyn, who was now free from the corruption that possessed her.

“This time, I’m gonna make sure you stay dead!” Knuckles  shouted at the ooze.

“No!” he heard the Dark King’s voice cry from the ooze.

But Knuckles wasn’t going to give him mercy. He continued to hold onto Katelyn’s sword, continuing to fight the pain that burned in his hand, and pointed it at the ooze. A bright, white light blasted out of the sword and hit the ooze. The ooze blasted out the window, and as rays of sunlight came out (because the black clouds were vanishing because the Dark Queen was no more) the ooze burned up, and once the flames were gone, nothing was left. Not even a single speck of ash was present.

Finally, at long last, the Dark King was officially dead. No mad man or zombie with the power to bring forth the dead can bring the Dark King back. The Dark King was finally nothing but a dead memory.
