Chapter 9: A Rescue

    Two hours later…

    Gary sat quietly at his desk in his lab. Aunt Arctic was there with him. While he worked on another gadget, Aunt Arctic watched him with interest, sipping a cup of tea.

    ‘He’s always making such amazing inventions. I know all of the island admires him for that, especially when a party comes, but… I like Gary for his personality. If the rest of the island knew that we were going out…’ thought Aunt Arctic.

    She was cut off from her thoughts when she noticed that her phone was buzzing. She checked the ID and noticed that it was PH>

    “PH?” she asked.

    “Director? Are you there?!” PH asked. She sounded worried from her end of the phone.

    “I’m here. What’s going on?” Aunt Arctic asked her.

    “Director! I don’t know how, but the others got captured!” said PH.

    ‘What? This isn’t good,’ thought Aunt Arctic. “Tell me what you know,” she said to PH out loud.

    “Well, I was coming back from training the Elite Puffles and on my way to headquarters when I got an SOS signal from Rookie. He told me that someone dressed in black kidnapped him and Dot before they could warn Amelia and her team about Herbert coming back. After that, Rookie told me that this guy, whoever he was, took Dot’s phone and called a number, which I’m guessing is with someone inside Herbert’s. The last thing I knew, Rookie told me he heard an alarm go off, which meant they got captured by Herbert before whoever took him and Dot caught them using the SOS signal and that’s it. I lost connection,” PH explained.

    Aunt Arctic let out a sigh. She looked at Gary, who stopped working on his invention to see what was going on with her conversation with PH. He couldn’t listen to what PH said, but judging by the look on his face, he was worried about the agents just like Aunt Arctic.

    “Alright Agent PH, listen up. Take the Elite Puffles back to headquarters and I want you all to call in a couple more agents to watch the monitor screens. Search for any penguins that look suspicious, wearing black or dressed normal. We need to find Agents Rookie and Dot,” she told PH.

    “Okay, but what about the others in Herbert’s base?” asked PH.

    Aunt Arctic looked at Gary and said, “Agent G and I will take care of that…” quietly.

    Gary and Aunt Arctic packed up some gear in some backpacks and started heading towards the base. They packed up some of the same gear that Gary gave the captured agents, along with a few more things, and made their way to the base. They quietly and cautiously made their way through the wilderness. If what PH said was true, about a mysterious penguin dressed in black was here on the island and already captured two agents, then Gary and Aunt Arctic wanted to avoid running into this guy face to face.

    Aunt Arctic wouldn’t say it, but she felt that the penguin dressed in black must be the one that Garinwald warned them about. And Gary had the same bad feeling to.

    Finally, they made it outside the base. They put the helmets and goggles on, made themselves invisible, and quietly made their way inside. And like Amelia and her group, they were unware that they were being watched…

    “You just wait…” the figure whispered.

    Back at headquarters, PH and two other agents monitoring the screens noticed the figure. However, they couldn’t see his identity, but they did see that Dot and Rookie were tied with their mouths tapped shut.

    PH frantically pulled out her spy phone and tried to call Gary or Aunt Arctic when she noticed that the penguin was watching them. But she couldn’t connect to them, which worried her.

    “You two keep your eye on him. I have to go and warn them!” she said.

    Back inside Herbert’s base, Jet Pack Guy and Berry were still locked up in the cage, but Amelia wasn’t with them anymore. Herbert has separated her from them and locked her in a containment cell. Amelia stood inside it with fear as some lights started to circle her as Herbert did his work.

    She didn’t know why, but he must have had his computer scan her.

    Gary and Aunt Arctic watched in fear (still invisible) as they saw what was going on.

    “What should we do?” said Aunt Arctic.

    “We’re invisible, so why don’t you sneak over and pick the lock to the cage? I’ll sneak over to Amelia’s cage and start attacking Herbert. He knows about her powers, so I’ll make it look like she’s attacking him out of her control because he’s got her locked up,” Gary said.

    “Okay, hope it works…” said Aunt Arctic.
