"The Adventures of the Three Heroes" presents...

“Friend of my Enemies” (Volume 3, Story 12)

A week passed by for Katelyn since she started classes at college, so she was back in Mobius for a weekend visit. After hanging out with Mario and Sonic, she decided to go out with Amy and Peach for lunch.

The girls sat down at a café and have a conversation while they waited for their orders.

“So, how’s classes so far?” asked Peach.

“They’re pretty good so far, but I have just started, so things are easy for now,” she said.

“Oh no…” Amy whispered.

She put her menu up to hide her face. Peach did the same thing, but Katelyn pulled out a mirror to see what it was that bothered them without turning around. Through the mirror, she saw Sally Acorn and Pauline, Sonic and Mario’s ex-girlfriends. There was also another girl with them, but it was pink echidna, and judging by the fact that echidnas were scarce in Mobius, she must be Julie-Su, Knuckles’s ex-girlfriend.

Katelyn remembered that Knuckles told her he only asked Julie-Su out just because his great-grandfather, Athair, wanted him to be with another echidna. However, Julie-Su wasn’t the right girl for Knuckles, because she only wanted to be with him for the Master Emerald, and she wasn’t the nicest person around.

And now, here she was, with Sally and Pauline, and chances were that she also hated Katelyn because Sally and Pauline hated her. They hated Katelyn because they believe that if Katelyn wasn’t around, then Mario and Sonic wouldn’t be with Peach and Amy. Most likely, they told Julie-Su that Katelyn was with Knuckles.

“I don’t need to ask…” Katelyn whispered.

Over at their table, Sally, Pauline, and Julie- Su saw Katelyn, Peach, and Amy.

“Not Staples…” Sally sneer under her teeth.

“That’s the girl my Knuckles broke up with me for?” Julie-Su asked her.

“Not only that, but she convinced my Mario and Sally’s Sonic to leave us for Blonde and Pinky…” Pauline said angrily.

“I want Knuckles back so I can get that Master Emerald,” Julie-Su growled.

“We have Staples to blame, and I think it’s time we show her not to mess with us…” said Sally.

Later that day, Katelyn decided to go on a walk by herself. Peach and Amy went back to the Mushroom Kingdom, so she decided to pay the Babylon Rogues a visit. She made it to their airship, but once she made it there, she saw something going on outside. Jet was arguing with Sally and Julie-Su.

“What do you mean you won’t help us out?!” Sally shouted at him.

“I mean, I’m not working with you two sweatfaces!” he shouted at them.

“Why won’t you help us spy on Staples and find out what she finds valuable?!” screamed Julie-Su.

“I’m not telling you anything!” Jet shouted.

In a fit of anger, Sally punched him in the face.

“Boss!” cried Storm.

Katelyn watched in horror as Storm rushed over to help, but Julie-Su kicked him in the gut. She couldn’t take another minute of this, so she turned invisible and flew over to deal with Sally and Julie-Su. She pulled Sally’s hair and gave Julie- Su a weggie. Both the girls freaked out in panic and ran away.

Once Sally and Julie-Su were gone, Katelyn turned visible to help Jet and Storm out.

“Guys, are you okay?” she asked them with a worried look.

“No…” they both groaned.

Katelyn helped them get back inside their airship. Wave wasn’t around, so Katelyn gave Jet an icepack and a washcloth and helped Storm sit down on the couch.

“What happened?” she asked Jet.

“Sally and that girl wanted us to help them by spying on you. They said they wanted to know what you find most valuable, but when I told them I wouldn’t help them, I refused,” Jet explained.

“They blame me for why Sonic and Knuckles aren’t with them, and the same goes for Pauline, since she blames me for why Mario isn’t with her,” said Katelyn.

“Let me guess, the exes?” Storm said with a sigh.

“Yep,” Katelyn said with a sigh.

“You’re our friend, so we’d never do such a thing…” said Jet.

Katelyn smiled at them. It really touched her to hear that even the Babylon Rogues wouldn’t gang up against he, and that they considered her a friend instead of a freak, a weirdo, or anything else the people who’ve tormented her called her.

“Thanks guys,” she said kindly.

From outside the window, Sally, Pauline, and Julie-Su were watching Katelyn, Jet, and Storm. Once they heard Jet called Katelyn a friend to him and the Rogues, they left, with furious looks on their faces. The three of them went back to Sally’s castle to discuss what to do about Katelyn.

“I am so pissed right now! Staples turned even the Rogues into softies to turn against us!” Sally screamed.

“Now who can we have deal with her to let her know not to mess with us?” shouted Pauline.

“I can assist you,” said a voice.

The girls turned around to see a Mobian bird of some sort dressed in a trench coat.

“I hate that human girl to. She’s stopped me from eliminating the Babylon Rogues. What’s to say that we make a deal?” said the Mobian.

“A deal?” asked Julie-Su.

“You kidnap the Rogues for me and bring them to me, and when Staples comes rescue them, you three can finish her off, and the Rogues are mine. In addition, since I’ve recently escaped prison, I’ll leave you three out of my work if I’m captured again. So… do we have a deal?” asked the Mobian.

Sally, Pauline, and Julie-Su all gave the Mobian evil grins. They were in.

Later that night, Jet, Storm, and Katelyn finished up some video games on the PlayStation 3. They were playing Minecraft, since Jet started to like the game.

“Get out of my way!” Jet shouted as he killed a zombie.

“Dang it! I ran out of arrows! I can’t kill the skeleton?!” shouted Storm.

“Ha! You just got owned, spiders!” Katelyn laughed as she killed a bunch of spiders.

Jet paused the game. “I need a break. You guys?” he said.

“Yeah. I’m gonna run down to the store and get you guys a little something,” said Katelyn.

“Oo! What are you gonna get?” Storm asked, hyper like a little kid.

“A surprise,” Katelyn said with a wink.

She ran out the door as fast as Sonic would’ve. Jet and Storm giggled.

“I wonder when Wave will be back,” said Storm.

“Yeah. She said she’s just going to get some new Extreme Gear supplies. I wonder why it’s taking her that long…” said Jet.

The two of them heard the door open and close.

“She must be back now,” said Jet.

He headed to the front door to see Wave, but when he got there, he didn’t see Wave. In fact, no one was there.

“Wave?” he called out.

There was no response, which must’ve meant another thing.

“Katelyn, if you’re going to scare us, it’s not funny!” he called out.

But there was no response again, and now Jet was scared. Normally, if Katelyn was planning to scare someone, she’d show herself if she was caught. But if Katelyn wasn’t showing herself, then someone else was in here.

Before Jet could call Storm for help, something hit him across the head, knocking him out.

Katelyn ran to the store to grab the surprise she had for Jet and Storm, but on her way back, she noticed the owner of the Extreme Gear store talking to the police.

“He came in, but he didn’t buy a thing. After my best customer left, he followed after her. Next thing I know, I heard a gunshot. I rushed out here to see what happened, but no one was here. All I found was the things my best customer bought here on the ground,” said the store owner.

“Can you describe the two Mobians you’re talking about?” asked the officer.

“Well, my best customer is a purple swallow. Her name is Wave the Swallow. The one who I don’t recognize looked like a tall, red eagle,” said the store owner.

Katelyn felt fear drop in her stomach like a weight. Crush kidnapped Wave!? She had to go and save her friend, but where were they?

She saw the officers looking at the stuff Wave bought at the store. Remembering how he dimensional scream triggers, she quickly ran over, touched the bag, and ran off before the officers could ask her what she was up to. Once she was away from the officers, her head started to spin, and her vision was forming.

Katelyn saw an image of a castle of some sort. In her vision, Katelyn looked around for clues to where this castle could be, and there was a portrait of Sally in it.

Once her vision was gone, Katelyn figured out where Crush took Wave: Sally’s castle. She knew Sally was a princess, but wasn’t Sally, and any of her goons, aware that Crush was a wanted criminal who escaped prison? And not only that, how did Crush escape prison? (She knew the reason why he would escape: to finish off the Rogues, and maybe her to.)

Or maybe, Sally and her friends didn’t care if Crush was an escaped prisoner. All that mattered to them was to get revenge on Katelyn, and if Crush was with them, then maybe this was their plan:

Captured the Rogues for Crush so he could finish them off, and when Katelyn came to rescue them, then Sally and her friends would kill her.

“Sally, Pauline, Crush, and now Julie-Su, you’ve chosen to mess with the wrong human…” she said with a dark look on her face. “If I can’t convince you to stop with words, then I’ll have to scare you into no longer messing with me…”

Jet started to regain consciousness. When he woke up, he realized that he was tied up, and right next to him, also tied up, was Storm. On the floor, holding her hand over her stomach, Wave was lying down like she was in pain.

“Wave!” Jet gasped.

“Jet…” she said quietly.

“Boss, what’s going on?” said Storm.

“I… I don’t know…” said Jet.

They heard the sound of a door open up and Sally walked in with a familiar, but unfriendly red eagle.

“Crush?!” cried Jet and Storm.

“That’s right,” Crush said with an evil grin.

“This is your punishment for not agreeing with your terms. We’ll let you live, but when Staples comes here to rescue you pathetic birds, Crush is free to finish you off. We need you alive for Staples to actually come and surrender,” said Sally.

“Using us as pawns in a plan to kill someone who’s done nothing wrong to you?! What the heck is wrong with you, Sally Acorn?!” Storm shouted angrily.

“You should even be… a princess…” Wave groaned.

“What did you do to Wave?!” Jet angrily growled.

“Relax. I haven’t killed her, yet…” Crush chuckled, as he pulled out his gun.

“You bastard!” Jet screamed at him. Then he turned to Sally and said, “And F.Y.I, after he finishes us off, he’ll kill you and whoever else agreed to this ridiculous deal, because you know he escaped prison and killed people!”

“Lies! Crush’s only concern is the three of you! Now, best you three tell each other your last words, since when Staples comes, so does your deaths…” said Sally.

She turned to leave, and when she had her back turned, Crush loaded his gun, but he eyed Sally. Once she was gone, he followed after her.

“Gee, loading the gun and giving someone a suspicious look doesn’t give it away,” Jet said sarcastically.

“Those girls… never listen… it’s always about… them…” Wave groaned.

“Wave! Are you okay?” Jet asked with a worried look.

“I’ll be okay. It doesn’t hurt that much, as long as I keep my hand on my wound…” she groaned.

“Just hang in there. Kate will come for us, but if we know her, she wouldn’t come bursting in. She’ll have a plan,” said Storm.

“Storm’s right. Katelyn won’t let us down,” said Jet.

Once she spotted Sally’s kingdom, Katelyn turned invisible. She flew over to the castle to avoid being spotted by any guards, and using her powers, she shut off any sensors or cameras so that they wouldn’t detect her either.

Flying like a ghost, she made her way through the walls quietly, and into the throne room. Sally was sitting on a couch, eating some junk food with Pauline and Julie-Su as they were watching a movie.

Oh god! Not ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’!’ Katelyn thought in horror.

But at the same time, her horrified reaction to the movie gave her an idea.

Hmm… let’s see what you three would find scary…’ thought Katelyn.

She eyed the TV with a fixed stare, putting a picture of it messed up, with only a few channels available to watch…

“Oh what? Stupid TV!” Sally shouted. She frantically pressed the remote buttons to fix the static, but nothing worked.

“Just put on a channel…” groaned Pauline.

Crush walked in with some popcorn and handed it to the girls. He took a seat on a chair away from them. Katelyn noticed that he was quietly loading his gun.

Gonna kill my enemies once you finish off the Rogues huh? Well, I know your fear… now for the girls…’ Katelyn thought.

Sally turned on a channel with a horror movie on it, since Katelyn left that as one of the only options for the chipmunk and her goons.

All three of the girls and even Crush got a little scared when they saw some horrifying moments in the movie.

Well, now I know how to scare the four of you…’ Katelyn thought with an evil grin forming on her face.

A little later, Sally eventually turned off the movie since no one could handle seeing the images on the screen.

“I can’t take another minute of that movie!” she gasped.

“Me neither! Now I’m afraid to see my own face in a mirror!” said Pauline.

“Well, I’m going to go wash my face. Hopefully that will help me forget the movie,” said Julie-Su.

She walked into the bathroom and over to the sink. She turned on the sink, splashed water on her face, and turned off the faucet when she was done. After drying her face with a washcloth, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. However, someone was standing right behind her: a person in a black cloak, and he was holding a hatchet!

“AAHHH!” Julie-Su screamed, turning around. But when she turned around, no one was behind her. She looked back at the mirror and saw only herself.

“Julie, what’s wrong?” asked Sally from another room.

“Nothing!” Julie-Su called back to them. “I must be hallucinating because of the movie,” she muttered to herself.

Over in the kitchen, Pauline walked over to the fridge. She was holding a bit bottle of soda, but when she opened the fridge to put it away, the food was replaced by some snakes and spiders.

“AAAHHHHH!” Pauline screamed. She slammed the fridge shut. Crush and Sally came over to her after hearing her scream.

“What?!” asked Sally.

Pauline didn’t speak, but only pointed to the fridge in fear. Sally opened it up, but she saw no snakes or spiders. Only the food and beverages she has.

“What’s wrong with you and Julie?” Sally asked with a disgusted look.

“But… there were snakes and spiders!” said Pauline.

“Stop it! You’re just messed up from the movie…” said Sally.

She walked over to the couch and picked up a plushie doll of Sonic.

“Just you wait, Sonic. I’ll have you as mine…” she whispered.

She put the phusie down, turned around to see Pauline and Julie-Su. They were both so scared from the movie and what they just saw.

“Pfft! Babies…” Sally muttered.

She turned around to pick up her plushie, but it was gone.

“Oh what? Seriously?” she muttered.

She started to look around the couch for her Sonic plushie, but she couldn’t find it. Sally got down on the floor to look under the couch, but when she did, she got a scary surprise.

“Hi Sally… How’s it hanging?” the doll asked with a creepy tone. It’s eyes were blood red, fangs were on the smile, and the doll was the color black.

“AAHHHHH!” screamed Sally.

She jumped back up and ran over to Pauline and Julie-Su.

“It’s just like the movie!” she cried.

“The ghost is after us!” wailed Julie-Su.

“You’re all a bunch of sissy!” said Crush. “There’s no such thing as ghosts!”

“Hi Crush…” said a scary sounding voice.

“Wh-?” Crush started to say, but after he turned around, he saw the entity of a yellow, female hawk. She had fangs, claws, white eyes with no pupils, and was holding a gun.

“You killed me, so I’ll kill you…” she said.

“AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!” screamed Crush.

The lights shut off, and there was the sound of a gunshot.

Crush ran away with Julie-Su, Pauline and Sally. The four of them ran out screaming like five year olds.  They all ran to a car and drove away in panic.

However, after the car was gone, the ghost of the yellow hawk, started to glow. She shape-shifted to the person she really was: Katelyn.

As she planned out, she added all the scary elements in the movie to scare them in real life. Katelyn stayed invisible as she followed Julie-Su into the bathroom and put those images in the mirror to scare the echidna. Then, when Pauline went into the fridge, she imagined real snakes and spiders to be in there, but when Sally would check the fridge, then the snakes and spiders would fade away. Next, when Sally picked up her plushie, Katelyn casted a spell on the doll to make it move under the couch and change into a scary appearance for when the chipmunk would look under the couch. And finally, when Crush said he didn’t believe in ghosts, Katelyn shapeshifted to look like Jet’s mother, who Crush killed years ago, to haunt him and prove him wrong.

And to finish things off, and make sure that they ran away in panic, she made the lights go off and fired the gun at the ceiling to scare them off.

“I told you not to mess with me, and since words didn’t work, scaring you was the only option,” she said with an evil grin.

A few hours later, Katelyn and the Babylon Rogues were back at the Rogues home. Katelyn healed Wave and told her and the guys that she secretly planted a tracking device on Crush’s belt, that way the police could track the eagle down and bring him back to prison.

And now that Crush and their rivals were out of the way for now, they could finally just relax and hang out again. After Wave was healed, Katelyn showed the Rogues what she got as a surprise at the store.

“Ice cream!” said Storm happily.

Katelyn bought some ice cream and all sorts of toppings to make their own ice cream sundaes.

“I love making sundaes!” said Jet, as he poured lots of chocolate syrup on his vanilla ice cream.

“That’s a lot of chocolate,” Wave laughed at him.

“Not as much as what’s on my sundae,” Katelyn said with a grin.

She poured chocolate syrup and sprinkled some chocolate chips and sprinkles.

“You love chocolate,” Storm giggled.

“Dark chocolate to be exact,” Katelyn said. She held up the bag of chocolate chips to show them that it was the kind she got.

All four of them laughed as they spent the rest of their time eating ice cream and talking the night away.

The end!
